Wolfgang-Brad

It’s been a while since I wrote an article myself, so let’s have a look at what testing for Worlds has shown us so far!

Since the release of Crimson Moon’s Battleground players have been trying to abuse Brad, Amnesiac Immortal (CMB-041) in almost every list possible, with Falchion, Solitary Scientist (NWE-066) being the best accompanying ruler for him so far (see JPK’s winning Falchion-Brad list during the last GP).

Today we’re going to have a look at what Wolfgang, Guide of the Demonic World (ADW-075) is able to do with Brad, and boy oh boy it does not disappoint!

First let’s have a look at the stars of the Wolfgang, Guide of the Demonic World (ADW-075) deck, namely Mumu Tribe Researcher (CMB-008) and Brad, Amnesiac Immortal (CMB-041). With Mumu Tribe Researcher (CMB-008) the deck is able to win as early as turn two and the Brad, Amnesiac Immortal (CMB-041) package (which we’ll discuss later in this article) makes sure that we’ll have plenty of (FREE !) answers to anything our opponent is trying to stop us from OTK’ing them.

THE ONE TURN KILL (OTK)

In order to be able to OTK our opponent on turn 2, the minimum requirement is having Mumu Tribe Researcher (CMB-008) in hand … nothing more!

Turn 1

Discard Mumu Tribe Researcher (CMB-008) to generate one void Will and use this together with a Will generated from our first Magic Stone to search for a Demonic World with a total cost of 2 (using Wolfgang, Guide of the Demonic World (ADW-075)‘s activate ability which says: “X: You may search your deck for a Demonic World addition with total cost X or less that doesn’t share a name with entities you control and put it into the field. Then shuffle your deck. Play this ability only during your turn and only once per turn.“), grabbing ourselves a The Sixth Boon: Requiem, Jewel (TST-092).

Turn 2

BEFORE RECOVERY we will use The Sixth Boon: Requiem, Jewel (TST-092) to generate either a Light or Darkness Will to search for a Demonic World with a total cost of 1 (again using Wolfgang, Guide of the Demonic World (ADW-075)‘s activate ability), grabbing either a The Graveyard of Amadeus (TST-011), Permafrost (ADW-040) or Temple of the Dead (ADW-069).

After recovery, we do not put a Magic Stone into play, but instead use the Will from the available Magic Stone and The Sixth Boon: Requiem, Jewel (TST-092) to perform judgment of Wolfgang, Guide of the Demonic World (ADW-075).

On enter, Wolfgang, Guide of the Demonic World [J-Ruler] (ADW-075J) not only lets us put the top card of our magic stone deck into the field rested, but we may also search our deck for a Demonic World addition and put it into the field. The Demonic World addition we will search for is The Paradise of Fallen Angels (ADW-095) which on enter allows us to search for any number of Fallen Angels and/or Demons with a combined total cost of X or less and put them into the field, where X is the number of Demonic Worlds with different names we control. Since Wolfgang, Guide of the Demonic World [J-Ruler] (ADW-075J) counts as a Demonic World himself, we are able to grab ourselves Fallen Angels and/or Demons with a combined total cost of 4 or less. We will search for both a Fallen Angel of the Chasm (TST-016) (cost 1) and a Fallen Angel of Terminus (ADW-063) (cost 3) and put them into the field.

With Fallen Angel of the Chasm (TST-016) in the field, all our other Fallen Angels we control gain Swiftness and Barrier. Thanks to this our Fallen Angel of Terminus (ADW-063) is able to attack the same turn it came into play. Due to having Flying (next to having Bane, Drain and Barrier:Light natively, as well as Swiftness and Barrier from Fallen Angel of the Chasm (TST-016)) it will be very hard to block its attack.

Fallen Angel of Terminus (ADW-063) has this nifty ability that says: “Rest three recovered Demonic Worlds you control: This card gains “Whenever this card deals damage to your opponent >>> You win the game.” until end of turn.” which we will use in order to OTK our opponent once he’s unable to present any blockers.

THE BRAD PACKAGE

Since we don’t want anything disrupting our combo, this is where the Brad, Amnesiac Immortal (CMB-041) package shines.
Brad, Amnesiac Immortal (CMB-041) himself, although being a meager 200/200 himself, is able to use himself as discard fodder in order to fuel the new cycle of CMB cards which allow us to remove cards in your hand from the game rather than pay for the card’s cost.

Each one of them serves a purpose in the deck, with Chevaleresse’s Tears (CMB-020) being the least obvious one, since it protects our combo play by “negating” a kill spell that targets our Fallen Angel of the Chasm (TST-016). Suppose we grab Fallen Angel of the Chasm (TST-016) + Fallen Angel of Terminus (ADW-063) and our opponent responds with Attack Order (CMB-071) (keep in mind that Child of the Darkness Moon (NWE-051)‘s God’s Art is negated by The Sixth Boon: Requiem, Jewel (TST-092)) killing Fallen Angel of the Chasm (TST-016), we can then respond by playing Chevaleresse’s Tears (CMB-020) (discarding it from our hand together with Brad, Amnesiac Immortal (CMB-041)) to target our Fallen Angel of the Chasm (TST-016). Since Chevaleresse’s Tears (CMB-020) says that each chosen target that is a resonator we control gains “When this card is destroyed >>> Put it from its owner’s graveyard into the field under your control rested.” until end of turn, we are able to perform a pseudo Play Dead (ADK-055) saving our Fallen Angel of the Chasm (TST-016) from being destroyed.

The other CMB chants are more self-explanatory:

Light Curtain (CMB-005) to help us survive until we are able to combo off.

Last Movement (CMB-036) to return anything we don’t want to see to our opponent’s hand.

Conflict of Memory and Soul (CMB-042) being our counterspell.

Roar of Dark Blessing (CMB-064) to rip our opponent’s entire hand by turn 3-4 since we can throw “dead” Additions in our hand into the chant.

The rest of the deck is focused on getting a Brad, Amnesiac Immortal (CMB-041) (or even a Lumia, Princess of Rebirth // Wings of Light and Darkness (ROL-005) if needed) in hand by using Stone Monument of the Sage (CMB-051) to search for a Human. This also opens up some interesting sideboarding possibilities which I will leave up to you to explore 😉

Of course, there are some downsides to playing this deck which will become apparent once you are trying to combat cards like Ray Aznable, Reunion’s Navigator (CMB-039) for example, but all in all the deck is fun to play and definitely able to surprise some opponents!
